District 63 Schoolhouse

There were 72 rural schoolhouses in Stevens County. They were numbered 1-71, and 100.

The District 63 schoolhouse was organized in 1900 in Donnelly Township. C.K. Weltzin donated the land in the southeast corner of the southwest quarter of section 8. It was built by Mr. Monson at a cost of $550. The first teacher was Clara Clementson. The District 63 schoolhouse is still standing, though it was moved to the Stevens County Fairgrounds from it's original location.  The schoolhouse provides opportunities for students (and their parents and grandparents!) to experience rural school life through our programming and open house during the Stevens County Fair each August.

We are currently working on a comprehensive collection of all the district schoolhouses that were in our county.  If you have any information and photos of these schoolhouses, we would love it if you would share them with us!
